Entergy recently invested in a mobile command center that allows teams to quickly establish an operational presence in storm-affected areas. In the event of storms, the mobile command center supports internal and external support teams in rapid assessment and recovery planning. The unit is equipped with high-speed Internet access, computer workstations, satellite communications systems, a conference table with screen and ClickShare, monitors on the outside of the unit that can display helpful content, and the same security measures as a corporate building, providing a safe and efficient space to work and serve customers.

“The mobile command center is very important to our remediation efforts because it provides us with the mobility needed to effectively conduct our remediation efforts,” said Kelvin Winslow, senior manager of operations and construction for Entergy Texas.

While stationed in The Woodlands, Texas for a hurricane preparedness exercise, the mobile command center was relocated to Beaumont, Texas to serve as a key hub after severe thunderstorms hit the Entergy Texas service area on June 10.

“Setting up the mobile command center took just a few minutes, so we could quickly start communicating with our teams,” said Frank Shannon, director of regional distribution operations at Entergy Texas. “It was an unexpected opportunity to put the unit through its paces, which will serve as an effective resource for recovery within Entergy or when called upon to support our partner utilities.”

While there is currently only one mobile command center in the company’s fleet, teams can deploy traditional trailers when mobile customer information centers are needed in more than one community. Branded tents and booths with pop-up banners are also used to provide fast customer support when needed.

The Mobile Command Center is an exciting and innovative addition that will ultimately support response teams and customers more efficiently during a crisis.
